Members present papers, hear lectures, discuss essays, and watch videos and documentaries. General discussion follows all the programs. All programs are free and open to the public.
Mission Statement: The Civil War Round Table is dedicated to serious study of Civil War Issues. Membership is open to all who pay our modest dues.

Upcoming meetings:

January 9, 2008 : BOOK DISCUSSION NIGHT. The CWRT will read and discuss the story of a true Oregon-grown Naval Hero: Roswell Lamson. "Lamson of the Gettysburg" is the story of a Union Naval Officer who was the youngest and best of the naval officers to patrol the Atlantic Coastline during the naval blockade. Lamson grew up in Oregon, fought indians as a boy and “went down to the sea in ships.” As editors James and Patricia McPherson noted, America's real life counterpart to Horatio Hownblower “had an uncanny knack for being where the action was.” This 1997 book is available for immediate purchase at rock-bottom prices at Amazon.com. Note: this meeting will take place in Cramer Hall, Room 447 (the Hoffmann Library).

February 13, 2008: CWRT'S 6TH BIRTHDAY! Come and celebrate the 6 years of Civil War History and Scholarship at this event featuring Abraham Lincoln as portrayed by presenter Steven Holgate. A retired State Department official, Steven has also written a play on the life of Lincoln and is a member of the Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. Cake and refreshments will be served. Bring your family and friends to this unforgettable event.

March 12, 2008: “Civil War Heroes Buried in Oregon." Randy Fletcher, freelance writer and member of the Col. Edward D. Baker Camp # 6 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; will tell us about his research into the backgrounds of several veterans buried in Oregon, and why these sometimes forgotten heroes deserve our respect and admiration today.

April 9, 2008: “Greerson's Raid and My Great Great Grandfather.”  CWRT member and retired high school history teacher Ed Demko will divulge more than a few details about his ancestor's role in the Civil War. We will be playing a few excerpts from the movie: “The Horse Soldiers” before the lecture.

May 14, 2008: "Lincoln's Birthday and Memorial Day : the History of two important American Holidays." History professor Matthew Dennis from Oregon State University, author of the best-selling book Red, White and Blue Letter Days: An American Calendar, will dispel all rumors and dismantle the legends surrounding the founding of Abraham Lincoln's Birthday, the interesting origins of Memorial Day, and more.

June 11, 2008: John Hathaway on the Drum Barracks.
